We all need time to relax and recharge–and taking time off (with pay) is a tried-and-true way to come back feeling more productive. When employees are joining the team from a different work environment, they may be hesitant to use PTO at first. This is where a manager’s role can make all the difference: be sure to remind team members to use PTO when it’s available! Sending out a reminder once a quarter is a great place to start.
Conduct Regular Check-Ins
Keeping an open line of communication is critical for relationship building. Hosting one-on-one meetings is an excellent strategy for understanding employees’ progress, goals, and frustrations. During these chats, consider discussing plans for the week, identifying possible problems and solutions, and even having casual conversations. Mutual trust goes a long way in creating strong teams, so weekly heart-to-hearts can help you get to know each other and keep an eye out for signs of burnout.
Burnout goes beyond feeling tired or needing a break. This problem doesn’t happen overnight and can have serious implications for the individual, as well as everyone on the team.
