Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and love is in the air. Before you go out and celebrate with a group of friends or a significant other this year, we thought we would give you tips on how to love another part of your life – your office interior! For many of us, our workplace is where we spend the majority of our time. Unfortunately, if our office decor doesn’t capture our true self or personality, it can be difficult to enjoy working in that area for a long period of time. Here are some tips on how to fall in love with your office space, just in time for the upcoming holiday.
De-Clutter & Spring Clean
It may be chilly outside, but spring cleaning can be the best way to spruce up our space. When we get busy and the work piles on, it can be difficult to stay organized. Those stacks of papers aren’t going to help us appreciate the space around us at work. By eliminating office clutter, we can improve our ability to focus and be more productive. It also helps to de-clutter our computers and get all of our email and files organized – and in turn, clear our heads!
Personalize
Personalization is an important part of our overall happiness and love for our office surroundings. A great place to start is with photographs. Frame some pictures of your significant other, your kids, or even your lovable pet. While most people bring at least one photo with them into their workspace, including several can add to your workplace happiness. In addition to photos, do you have a favorite color to showcase in a stapler or other desk accessory? How about a lucky coffee mug? If your employer allows it, bring those things that will make you happy and create a feeling of comfort at work.
Observe & Change It Up
Take some time each day to notice your workspace. Is anything bothering you by its presence? It may be an over-bright computer monitor, an unpleasant odor, or a tangled phone cord in the corner. Whatever gets on your nerves, there is usually a way to solve the issue – ask for help to do so, if necessary. Sometimes all we need is to change things up a little in our environment, and we can begin a whole new day in a space we can love.
